Washington — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has awarded nearly $480 million in grants to assist safety initiatives associated to large vans and buses.
Under its Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program, FMCSA is utilizing grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to assist actions and tasks in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and 5 U.S. territories.
Among the initiatives:
- Safety inspections of large vans and buses
- Investigations of motor carriers in response to safety considerations
- Audits of latest truck carriers and bus firms, with particular emphasis on accountable operation and secure motion of products and passengers
- Outreach and schooling efforts to assist curb roadway safety considerations corresponding to distracted driving
“Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program grant funding is an important tool for reducing crashes and fatalities involving commercial motor vehicles,” appearing FMCSA Deputy Administrator Sue Lawless stated in a press launch. “The number of fatalities on our nation’s roadways involving commercial motor vehicles decreased by an estimated 8% from 2022 to 2023.
“We know the needle is moving in the right direction, but until we reach zero roadway deaths, there will always be more work to do. These grants help fund that work.”
