Washington — The Environmental Protection Agency is delaying the data submission interval for a closing rule requiring producers and importers of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances to report data on PFAS use, exposures and hazards.
According to a direct closing rule printed Sept. 5, EPA has pushed the start of the submission interval to July 11, 2025, due to budgetary constraints. Previously, that interval was set to start Nov. 12 of this yr.
EPA beforehand decided that the rule might affect industries together with building, manufacturing, wholesale and retail commerce, and waste administration and remediation. It covers almost 1,500 PFAS – also referred to as “forever chemicals” as a result of they break down slowly over time.
Published this previous October and efficient the next month, the rule requires anybody who has manufactured or imported PFAS since 2011 to report data that features:
- The variety of individuals uncovered – and cheap estimates on the quantity who might be uncovered – to every substance or combination within the office, in addition to the length of their publicity
- Descriptions of byproducts ensuing from the manufacture, processing, use or disposal of every substance or combination

“Any impact on the regulated community is expected to be beneficial given that the extension provides additional time to submit accurate reports to EPA,” the company says.
